Going Solo To A Wedding? Keep These 5 Tips In Mind

Summer is wedding season, and for a variety of reasons sometimes you don’t have a date. Whether your date has to work, it’s a destination wedding, you didn’t receive the option of a plus one, everyone is busy, or maybe you prefer to go solo, sometimes you end up stag at a wedding. But it doesn’t have to be a buzz kill, in fact, it can be a lot of fun! Here are some things to keep in mind when going solo to a wedding.

  1. You’re not the only single person likely to attend. More than likely there will plenty of other single guys and gals there, and one of the best times to scope out who is still on the market is during the bouquet toss and the garter toss.
  2. Bring your dancing shoes. You might have to sit out the slow dances, but you can rock the “Cha Cha Slide.” If you have friends there, coupled or single, grab them and head to the dance floor. You’ll be so busy showing off the latest dance moves, you won’t have time to worry about your relationship status.
  3. It’s a great time to catch up. If you’re at a family wedding, or maybe a college friend’s nuptials, chances are there are a few people there you haven’t had a chance to talk to lately. This is the perfect opportunity to reminisce about the old days and ask them about their kids, dog, house renovations, and everything else you’ve been meaning to catch up on.
  4. It’s one day. It is not the end of the world if you are not perfectly comfortable or have to attend alone. The day is not about you, it’s about helping the new couple celebrate a lifetime of love. They invited you because they care for you, not about your relationship status. If you’re close enough to be invited, you’re close enough to tough it out solo for one day.
  5. Stuck at the singles table? Or the fifth wheel at your table? Either way, it’s a chance to meet new people, and they just might end up being awesome. In my experience, my friends pick pretty awesome friends.

Now that you’ve decided to go, all you have to do it pick out a card!
