Minneapolis (KROC AM News) - A Minneapolis man whose plan to rob a restaurant was thwarted by an employee who ended up getting shot is on his way to prison.

A federal judge Friday sentenced 32-year-old Abdiweli Mohamed Jama to 144 months behind bars.

He was prosecuted under the federal Hobbs Act and pleaded guilty a week after his arrest.

Prosecutors say Jama entered Market Bar-B-Que in Minneapolis, armed with a semi-automatic pistol, and attempted to rob the business. An employee tried to thwart the robbery and engaged in a physical altercation with Jama. During the altercation, Jama’s pistol discharged, and the employee was struck in the shoulder and the knee. Jama fled on foot but was later apprehended.
