Friday evening I was coming home from the farm on Highway 3 in Faribault just west of the fairgrounds. There is a wetland on the north side of the road. These two geese and goslings decided to cross the highway. Well, maybe not cross the highway as they took their time walking down the highway first! I don't know much about geese but I was curious if these two adults were the male and female or mom and dad to these goslings?

I found out a male is a gander and female is referred to as a goose. I also read a male and female pair up and are very dedicated to each other. So, I assume this is a "family" of geese. I was pleased that I saw them in time and was able to avoid running them over. Actually I stopped on Highway 3 and waited for them to get out of my way. Next time I see Sheriff Troy Dunn I plan on asking if it is OK to stop on a state highway to avoid running over wildlife. There was not much traffic and the speed limit was only 40 mph so I did not think I was causing a major traffic hazard.
