Waterville-Elysian-Morristown scored more points off turnovers than Martin County West had total in a running time game in Waterville tonight.  With the 61-26 victory the Bucs are the South Subsection Champions of Section 2A.

W-E-M collected 30 points off 30 Mavericks turnovers in the final game played in Waterville this season.  They led 38-15 at the half.

Martin County West ended their season with a 14-6 record.  The Buccaneers seemed to have more than 5 players on the floor, doing a masterful job of filling passing lanes and intercepting passes.  A number of passes from out of bounds were also thrown to the W-E-M team by the Mavericks.

Waterville-Elysian-Morristown improves to 18-3 and is one game away from a return trip to the State Girls High School Basketball Tournament.  Which by the way there is still no announcement about when and where the state quarterfinal games are going to be played.

The Buccaneers will play undefeated Sleepy Eye-St. Mary's Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. at Sibley East High School for the Section 2A Championship.  The Lady Knights rolled over BOLD 94-59 in the North Subsection title game.

W-E-M did play SESM on March 5th in Sleepy Eye with the Lady Knights scoring a 62-58 win.

Tonight balanced scoring was fun to watch with 5'7 senior Brielle Bartelt connecting on three 3 point baskets, 18 points to lead the way.  5'11 senior Toryn Richards had 13 points. 5'7 senior Lindsay Condon and 5'9 senior Kylie Pittman added 9 points each.

I'm sure Bucs Head Coach Tyler Kaus was not pleased with his team's 14 turnovers but realistically I'm guessing it's hard to maintain your concentration in a running time game.  I never participated in one so I wouldn't know.

W-E-M again struggled at the free throw line going 5 of 11 after their 9 of 18 performance in the semifinals.

Our Cashwise Foods and Pharmacy of Owatonna Delivery of the Game went to Richards for a perfect pass in the first half to Condon that led to a layup.

Sleepy Eye St. Mary's outscored their opponents 241-147 in three Subsection games while Waterville-Elysian-Morristown outscored opponents 178-83.

The Lady Knights averaging 80.3 points per game and allowing 49 per contest.  The Buccaneers have given up 27.6 points per game while averaging 59.3 offensively.

Thursday's title game will be broadcast on KDHL Radio, 920 AM, 97.9 FM and the KDHL app beginning at 6:45 p.m.

The Waterville-Elysian-Morristown boys play in St. Clair Wednesday night on POWER 96 Radio, 95.9 FM and the POWER 96 app.  Coverage begins 6:45 p.m. of the Section 2A South Subsection Championship game.
