Waseca led wire-to-wire while beating Academy of Holy Angels 82-62 Thursday afternoon in the Class AAA boys basketball state tournament at Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota campus. The Bluejays scored the first nine points of the game and held a double-digit advantage for a good portion of the game.

Malik Willingham, Waseca's all-time leading scorer, added 22 to his total. He has 1,983 career points. He also grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out six assists Wednesday. His younger brother Kyreese Willingham also had a double-double with 17 points and a dozen boards. Plus he had five assists, four steals and three blocked shots.

Andrew Morgan scored 21 with several slam dunks and had nine rebounds. Ryan Dufault had 12 points and five assists. Matt Olsem went for nine points and nine rebounds. Only one point was scored by a non-starter for the Bluejays (29-1).

Waseca shot 48-percent overall but just 15-percent on three-pointers, going 3-for-20. Holy Angels hit 8-of-29 triple attempts and shot 34-percent. The Bluejays outscored the Stars in the paint 46-26 and in fast break points 10-2. Waseca controlled the rebounding battle with a 49-30 advantage.

The Bluejays face Austin in Thursday's 2 pm semifinal at Target Center. All of the semifinal games will be carried by AM 920 KDHL. Minneapolis DeLaSalle will open the day facing off with Princeton, who is making its first state tournament appearance since 1932.

Holy Angles also had four players with double figures, Emmett Johnson, Max Gerstner and Matt Banovetz each had 15 points.
