Wanamingo Jacks Trump Owatonna Aces in Amateur Baseball
The Wanamingo Jacks scored in seven of the nine innings of a 15-10 win Saturday night over the Owatonna Aces in Owatonna.
The Jacks were led by the bats of Sam Roosen and Eric Swiggum. Roosen had 4 hits, an RBI and scored 4 runs. Swiggum had 3 hits and 6 RBI in the slugfest. He was a triple shy of the cycle. Alex Roosen also clubbed a solo home run and RBI double.
Braxton Baker cracked three singles with 2 RBI.
Alex Roosen started the game and his slider was giving the Aces fits. He dealed for 7 innings throwing 131 pitches, 80 strikes with 13 strikeouts, 4 walks, allowing 7 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned.
When Alex left the game his team was ahead 13-4. In fact it looked like the contest would be no contest. Over in 7 innings by the 10-run rule.
The Owatonna Aces kept battling after a 4 run top of the 7th to make the score 13-2, Owatonna scored 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to extend the game.
Wanamingo scored two more runs on a sacrifice fly and solo homer by Swiggum in the 8th inning only to see the Aces get to a pair of relief pitchers in the bottom of the inning to the tune of 6 runs as 10 batters came to the plate.
Matt Seykora started on the hill for the Aces going 2 1/3 innings with 5 runs scored, 4 hits allowed, 1 strikeout, 5 walks. He threw 68 pitches, 36 strikes.
The Jacks opened the game with a Brady Anfinson walk on 5 pitches followed by a Sam Roosen single, 2 RBI double by Swiggum, RBI double by Alex Roosen. He would be stranded at third base when Seykora was able to get the next three batters ending the inning with his only strikeout.
Owatonna answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. Sandwiched between three strikeouts Tyler Smith would beat out a infield hit. Seykora brought him home with a double off the fence. He would be stranded at third base.
After back to back walks to start the second inning Seykora caught a bit of luck when Anfinson's grounder hit baserunner Jacob Glarner retiring Glarner and Anfinson before a ground out ended the half inning.
Swiggum smashed a ball to second ending in an error to start the third inning. Brock Baker doubled placing runners at second and third base. Gavin Sommer was walked to load the bases,
Braxton Baker walked to score Swiggum. Seykora was lifted from pitching and went to center field. Gavin Rein came in to pitch and on his first throw hit Dylan Craig in the helmet scoring another run.
The Aces answered with a run in the bottom of the third. Following a strikeout Smith singled and advanced to third base on a pickoff attempt by Alex Roosen that went high and wide.
Back to back walks would load the bases before AJ Vandereide hit a sacrifice fly fro a RBI.
Sam Roosen led the top of the 4th with a single and scored on a single by Brock Baxter.
The Jacks scored two more runs in the 5th inning. Dylan Craig walked to start the inning and scored on a RBI single by Sam Roosen. Brady Anfinson followed the Craig walk with a single and scored on a Swiggum single.
In the top of the 6th inning Sommer hit a one out single. He would end up at third base on two errors during a pick-off attempt and scored on a Braxton Baker single.
My scorebook had Owatonna with 5 errors and Wanamingo with 3. The Jacks tallied 17 hits, Aces 10 hits.
Owatonna stranded 9 on the bases, 6 in scoring position. Wanamingo left 14 on base, 8 in scoring position.
Owatonna has a doubleheader this afternoon with Winona at Chuck Fuller Field. First game first pitch is 1:00 p.m. while Wanamingo entertains Pine Island at 2:00 p.m.
The Jacks are now 9-4 on the season, 6-3 in Twin Rivers play. The Aces 4-7 overall,
2-7 in the Twin Rivers League.
