The Wanamingo Jacks used three home runs to score 6 of their 9 runs in a 9-2 victory over the Austin Greyhounds Saturday.  The Region 5C Amateur Baseball Tournament game had a 18 minute delay when the field lights went out at 10:06 p.m.  They were in full force by 10:24 p.m.

Alex Roosen struggled with his control early throwing 53 pitches in the first two innings.  He allowed just one base runner over the final five innings throwing 42 pitches.  Alex finished the game with 151 pitches thrown, 108 for strikes with 12 strikeouts, 4 walks and 5 hits allowed.

Wanamingo had 12 hits, committed no errors.  Austin had 3 errors.

Roosen added a solo, no doubt home run over the extended left field fence for the Jacks 9th run of the game in the top of the 8th inning. Eric Swiggum hit two opposite field home runs to account for 5 Wanamingo scores.

The Jacks have four players with batting averages above .300.  Swiggum is third on the team at .333, slugging percentage .625.

Austin took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Alex Ciola was walked on 5 pitches and following a balk stood at second base.  Cleanup hitter Erric Torres smacked a 0-2 pitch for a double to give the Greyhounds the lead.

In the top of the second inning Swiggum was safe on a error to start the inning.  Max Bowen hit a single.  Andrew Anfinson hit a smash that was snared by the first baseman who threw out Swiggum trying to get back to second base for the double play.  Aaron Bauer walked.  Dylan Craig hit an RBI single to tie the game.

The Jacks took the lead for good while scoring two runs in the third inning.  Brady Anfinson started the inning with a 2-2 count single.  Sam Roosen singled.  Alex Roosen hit into a double play.  Swiggum hammered the first pitch over the right field fence.

Wanamingo added a run in the fourth inning when Andrew Anfinson opened the inning with a walk followed by an error on a Bauer hit ball.  Bauer would later score on a fielder's choice hit by Brady Anfinson.

In the bottom of the 4th inning MIguel Castro led off with a first pitch double for Austin.  Hunter Guyette followed with an infield single .  Alex Roosen struck out the number 8 and 9 hitters before Daniel Bollingberg hit the first pitch he saw for a RBI single.

The Jacks scored a run in the 5th inning when Alex Roosen walked to start.  The next two batters recorded outs with Alex moving to second on a while pitch and third base on a passed ball.  Andrew Anfinson coaxed a walk.  Then Aaron Bauer hit a full count single to score Alex Roosen.

Swiggum added his three run home run in the 6th inning again stroking the first pitch.  It followed a walk by Sam Roosen and hit batsman of Alex Roosen.

The Jacks play Cannon Falls 7:00 p.m. tonight following the other winner bracket game between Red Wing (7-1 over Lake City 1) and Rochester (8-1 over Owatonna).  So a win guarantees a trip to state for one of these teams.

Those two winners will play Friday for the #1 and #2 seed out of the region to state.

This is a modified 8 team double elimination tournament.  The #3 representative will be the team that comes out of the elimination bracket.
