The Wanamingo Jacks defeated the Waseca Braves 4-1 tonight at Tink Larson Field in Waseca and advanced to next weekend's Region 5C Tournament.  The first round of Region 5C will be played in Cannon Falls and the final weekend in Owatonna.

Brady Anfinson picked up the win while throwing the first 7 innings of the game.  Anfinson threw 97 pitches, 65 strikes with 4 strikeouts, 2 walks, allowing 5 hits and 1 run.  Alex Roosen threw the last two innings with 4 strikeouts and 1 hit allowed, he threw 26 pitches, 18 strikes.

The Jacks scored two runs in the first inning with the benefit of one hit.  Sam Roosen drew a one out walk, Eric Swiggum clubbed a single. The two base runners advanced on a wild pitch. Following a strikeout Sean Wingfield reached base on an error and Roosen and Swiggum scored.

With one out in the top of the third inning Sam Roosen collected an infield single.  Max Bowen came into the game to play right field after it appeared Swiggum may have suffered a leg injury.  Bowen hit an RBI doublet to give Wanamingo a 3-0 lead.

The Braves scored in the bottom of the third inning when Kelvin Nelson drew a walk to start the inning.  Uriah Possien followed with a single and Hunter Frerichs smacked a RBI double to left field.  Peder Sviggum did a nice job getting the ball into the infield in quickly to limit the damage to just the one run.  Waseca had three more runners left in scoring position in the game.

The Jacks got an insurance run in the 7th when Sviggum had a single scoring Alex Roosen who reached base on a fielder's choice.

Final line totals in my scorebook were:

Wanamingo 4 runs    8 hits    1 error   11 runners left, 4 in scoring position
Waseca       1 run      6 hits    1 error     8 runners left, 7 in scoring position

Region 5C playoffs begin Saturday at John Burch Park in Cannon Falls.  Five teams from the Twin Rivers League and three representatives of the Classic Cannon Valley League Class C teams will participate in the double elimination tournament with the top three teams advancing to the State Amateur Baseball Tournament.
