Two recent Owatonna High School graduates received some delightful news earlier this week from a local organization.

The Owatonna Foundation just awarded their Nontraditional Scholarships. These scholarships are specifically for local students who dedicate themselves to studying at technical or community colleges. 

According to a news release from the organization, "The goal of the Owatonna Foundation is to get students trained in trades in hopes that they will return to Owatonna and fill some of the many job openings we have right here in Owatonna."

This year, both Joshua Prostrollo and Alex Tryhus received a monetary scholarship of $3,000 from the Foundation.

Joshua Prostrollo, child of Steve and Shannon Prostrollo, is attending South Central College in hopes of earning a Computer Science degree.

Alex Tryhus, child of Neil and Christy Tryhus, is attending Riverland Community College in hopes of attaining a Construction Electrician degree.

  • Focus--Individuals pursuing a technical career at a non-four-year program at a technical/community college
  • Graduation--Graduating with the Class of 2022
  • Scholarship Awards--$500 - $3,000

Owatonna Foundation Non-Traditional Scholarships—June 25, 2022, and October 25, 2022

  • Focus--Individuals pursuing a technical career at a non-four-year program at a technical/community college
  • Graduation--Graduated with the class of 2022 or prior
  • Scholarship Awards--$500 - $3,000

June A. and Melanie Nelson Scholarship for Women—June 25, 2022, and October 25, 2022

  • Focus--Woman pursuing a non-traditional career at a technical/community college or university
  • Scholarship Award--$1,500
