Over 350 households benefited from a 'truck to trunk' food distribution presented by Community Pathways of Steele County Friday morning. Vehicles lined up a-half-an-hour ahead of the start time. But the process went quickly during the two-hour distribution. On their Facebook page, Community Pathways said, "What a great turn out! We would like to thank all the volunteers that came to help with Truck to Trunk and Channel One Food Bank for delivering! We were able to serve over 350 households!"

The Facebook page also posted video of the process. Vehicles lined up in two rows. They told volunteers how many households they were collecting food for. The boxes of food were set into the vehicle without the driver needing to leave their seat.

The boxes contained meats and proteins, dairy, and produce. Families did not need to register and the distribution was intended for anyone in need. Owatonna Police assisted with the traffic flow.

A recipient I spoke with said you could tell the volunteers were smiling, even through their masks, as they worked through the rain while helping their neighbors. She said it was "real slick" at how efficiently cars moved through the line.

This individual spoke briefly with Marketplace director Nancy Ness who was very grateful at all the volunteers that turned out to assist. Ness told KRFO radio during a previous donation event that the community and businesses are very generous in supporting the Marketplace (formerly the Steele County Food Shelf).

Families may also want to look into the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer, which is a temporary food benefit available to Minnesota families with children who would have received free or reduced-price meals if schools were open," according to the Minnesota Department of Human Services website.
