The Truth About Why Minnesota is One of Best States for Working Moms
Mothers Day is Sunday, May 8th, and a new survey says that Minnesota is one of the best states for working moms in 2022.
The phrase 'working mom' always seems a little redundant to me, because if you're a mom, it's a given that you're ALREADY doing a lot of work, right? But in this new survey, it turns out that the Land of 10,000 Lakes is one of the best states in the country for moms who also hold down a job outside the home.
That's the word from WalletHub's 2022 Survey of the Best and Worst States for Working Moms. To compile the survey, WalletHub compared the attractiveness of each of the 50 states for a working mother based on 17 key metrics. Specifically, they looked at categories including median women’s salary, female unemployment rate, day-care quality and more.
And once they ran all the numbers, Minnesota came out as the #4 state in the country for working moms. In fact, only Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts were rated as better states than the North Star State when it comes to making life easier for working moms.
Specifically, the Bold North scored well in categories like Median Women's Salary (where we ranked 3rd), Quality of Day Care (where we ranked 9th), and well as having one of the lowest percentages of Single-Mom Families in Poverty (where we ranked 5th.)
Categories where Minnesota could use a little improvement included the Female Unemployment Rate (where we ranked 18th) and the Ratio of Female Executives to Male Executives (where we ranked 21st.) But even those two scores, which were Minnesota's lowest in the survey, still put us in the top half of all 50 states.
