Storm Dumps More Than A Foot Of Snow In Northern Minnesota

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The first major winter storm of the season blasted its way across northern Minnesota over the weekend, dumping more than a foot of snow in some areas.

Cities reporting more than a foot include Bemidji, Chisholm, Hibbing and Lutsen. The small town of Finland leads the list with a whopping 16 inches. The town is located in the North Shore area near Silver Bay.

There were dozens of traffic wrecks and spinouts but so far, no fatalities to report.

Very windy and cold weather is following the storm and will affect the entire state Monday. Areas in southeast Minnesota have already experienced wind gusts of over 50 mph and for the first time this season, temperatures will fall into the single digits by Monday evening.

Temperatures in parts of southeast Minnesota fell from around 30 degrees at midnight to 12 degrees at 7:00 am Monday.

Warmer weather is expected to return with highs in the low 40s by Thursday.
