The Stewartville Volleyball program has been a perennial power in Southeast Minnesota and across the entire state for decades.

In fact, 4 of them.

Stewartville's John Dzubay Collects 1,000th Win

Head Coach John Dzubay has had some incredible athletes come through the program in his 40 years at the helm of the Stewartville Volleyball program. Last night in a non-conference matchup with Fillmore Central, the Tiger's Head Coach collected his 1,000th career win.

The Stewartville Volleyball Twitter page shared some of the amazing accomplishments of Dzubay's career including 5 state championships (their latest in 2019) and 24 state appearances.

Back in 2012, Dzubay became the 3rd coach in Minnesota to reach the 800 win milestone, joining legendary coaches Gail Nucech of Hibbing who reached the milestone in 2007, and Milan Mader of Lakeville North who reached the milestone in 2010.

Dzubay then made a category of his own when he collected his 900th win in 2017, according to the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association website.

Now, in 2021, Dubzay becomes the 1st coach in Minnesota to reach 1,000 career wins. (Again, he is the only member in that club according to the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association website) An absolutely incredible accomplishment that not only shows off the longevity of his career but also the talent of the teams that have played at Stewartville.

Several area schools and volleyball took to Twitter to congratulate Dzubay on the accomplishment.

It is not very often that Stewartville isn't in the conversations as one of the best teams in the state. Seemingly always in the Top 10 rankings in Class AA, Stewartville now is in Class AAA.

The Tigers made the move into Class AAA in the 2021 season as the MSHSL moved Volleyball to four total classes. The Tigers are ranked #2 in the state in Class AAA, while a familiar foe for Stewartville at the state tournament in Marshall is ranked #1.

There is a long way to go in the 2021 season, but the tough Section 1AAA tournament is shaping up to be another great one. Stewartville along with Kasson-Mantorville and Byron (both ranked #5 in Class AAA) are all looking poised to make a run this season.

Yeah, It is shaping up to be an exciting playoff season.
