Minnesota's golf season really seemed to take off once players were allowed on the courses. The weather has, for the most part, been favorable as well. A big event with a long history is the Owatonna City Open. The adult portion of the tournament is August 1-2 at Owatonna Country Club and Brooktree Golf Course. Go to Owatonnagolf.com for details and to sign up.

The junior portion of the event is August 6-7. Players age 13-17 will be at Brooktree and OCC. Players 12-and-under will go to Havana Hills. The adult tournament costs $55. Juniors age 13-18 pay $20 and those 12-and-under are no charge.

Chad Hacker won the 2019 Owatonna City Open by three strokes over Wesley Dickhaus. Sue Erickson won last year's women's title for low gross and low net. Senior winners were Chris Norbury for low gross and James Buzick for low net.

The summer has already had a number of big happenings. Owatonna Country Club recently crowned Chris Flo and Scott Kostelecky as the champions of the Shea Invitational. A ladies event was held this week with great attendance and fantastic weather.

OCC announces their club champions, open to all members, at any skill level. The men's championship weekend is July 25-26. Women, seniors, and juniors will compete August 15-16. The format is individual stroke play. Contact the pro shop at Owatonna Country Club to sign up.

During a regular on-air segment on AM 1390 KRFO with Jason Iacovino, he reports that Blooming Prairie Country Club is looking in great shape and has hosted some events with good turnout this summer. Their Facebook page shows some nice pictures of the course looking to be in great shape.

BPCC is taking registration now for a two-man Ryder Cup-style outing on Saturday, July 25. Nine holes each of best shot, best ball, and modified alternate. The entry fee is $60 per person.

(Cart rental is not included) The courses featured include Blooming Prairie Country Club, Clarks Grove Golf Course, Gopher Hills Golf Course, Legacy Golf in Faribault, and Oak View Golf Club.
