The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said that early indications show that a motorcycle, driven by 37-year-old Joesph Heim of Ham Lake, was traveling south on Hanson Blvd NW in Coon Rapids at a high rate of speed when he crashed into a car that was turning off of 129th Lane NW onto Hanson Blvd around 8:45 p.m.

Heim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car was identified as 40-year-old Nicholas Wivinus of Coon Rapids. He was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

The sheriff’s office announced Thursday Wivinus died of his injuries at the hospital Tuesday night.

“The resulting loss of two lives is senselessly tragic, and we send our condolences to both of their grieving loved ones,” Anoka County Sheriff James Stuart said. “The recent increase of crashes and fatalities occurring within Anoka County is certainly concerning, and we will continue to encourage our community to practice safe driving habits while holding those who do not follow traffic laws accountable.”
