Rochester Polar Plunge Fun With Photos
It's Winter, and in MN that means snow, ice, cold, and of course, Polar Plunge Season, benefiting the over 8,200 Special Olympic athletes statewide. My family is a HUGE supporter of Special Olympics, my older daughter is one of the athletes, and my baby girl is a registered Unified Partner. It was nine years ago that we saw our first plunge in person, and my younger daughter, at age 5, said she wanted to do it someday. She is now 14 and just did her 5th plunge Saturday.
According to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Department Facebook page, the Plunge this year had 940 plungers, and raised over $233,000! That's pretty impressive, considering the air temp barely made it to the double digits, and the water was cold. Kudos to everyone who jumped, including the Super Plungers, who plunged once an hour for 24 hours. When the Super Plungers made their entrance, they did so to Ozzy Osbourne's song, "Crazy Train." I can't think of a more fitting song. I did not get every team, my daughter was a little chilled after she jumped, so we left after she was changed.
