A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Wildfire Safety

  • Avoid any outdoor burning.
  • Properly discard cigarettes.
  • Keep vehicles off dry grass.
  • Avoid activities with open flames or sparks.
  • Avoid power equipment that creates sparks.
  • Obey burn bans.
  • Evacuate if fire or smoke is headed your way.
  • Evacuate if ordered to do so by local officials.

Breezy winds today alongside low humidity will lead to elevated fire weather conditions. Fires could spread quickly, be sure to check with local officials for burning restrictions!

Critical fire weather conditions should develop across much of Minnesota this afternoon ahead of an approaching low pressure system. Elevated fire conditions could persist through early next week, however the strongest winds and driest conditions are expected Thursday through Friday.
