Pine Island, MN (KROC-AM News) - An area school district has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the NBC TV network.

The Pine Island Public Schools was notified today that it is among the 50 high schools nationwide that have been chosen to share in a $500,000 grant program inspired by the soon to premiere NBC TV show “Rise, which is about an inspirational high school theater program in a small American town. R.I.S.E. stands for Recognizing and Inspiring Student Expression and the grant money will be used to cover critical needs in the theater programs at the winning schools.

To be considered for one of the grants, each school submitted a video celebrating their theater program as well as a 500-word essay about the reasons the school should be chosen and how the $10,000 grant would be used to enhance the theater program.
