Paul Pieper, Rice County Environmental Services Solid Waste Director, was on today's AM Minnesota program. It is nice to occasionally have Paul on AM Minnesota because in Paul's world of recycling things are always changing. It was a nice change when they went to a single source for waste that can be recycled. If you are not sure what can be recycled, go to the Rice County website and there is a list of common household waste that can be put in the big blue containers.

Paul said in Rice County they collect about 36 tons every day that they ship off to plants that can separate 600 tons every day. It is amazing that machines can separate cardboard, paper, bottles, metal and aluminum cans, and plastics that can be reused. In addition there are a lot of old TVs, computers and screens along with other electronic devices in peoples homes. They can be dropped off at the landfill for a fee. It you have questions, listen to today's AM Minnesota program, check the website, or call them at (507) 332-6833.
