The Hector, Minnesota man who brought horse racing back to Minnesota passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday.

Sampson is the reason Canterbury Park is such a thriving race track here in Minnesota! Back In 1994, Curtis, his son Randy, and Dale Schenian purchased the then closed Canterbury Downs and turned it into Canterbury Park! In 2000, Canterbury Card Casino was added to the grounds and continued to add to the "family friendly atmosphere".

While fans are currently not allowed into the Park to watch the races, they are still able to enjoy the free live streams as well as the offering of curbside wagering. Before the races yesterday, Track PA announcer, Paul Allen, gave a touching tribute to his former boss and left some touching words for Sampson on his personal Twitter page!
