Owatonna Police performed some assistance to their counterparts from Sutter County California by apprehending a fugitive. "The deputy [from California] provided information a fugitive wanted in connection with an attempted murder was working in Owatonna at the Costco facility," according to the Owatonna Police Department's Just the Facts electronic newsletter.

"Owatonna patrol officers located the wanted individual and placed him under arrest without incident." The 21-year-old was being held in custody awaiting extradition back to the west coast at the time of this report.

Arrest Made in Dartt's Park Shooting

The Owatonna Police Department made an arrest on Friday, July 23 in connection with a shooting at the Owatonna park on Sunday, July 18. A Northfield 18-year-old, Zachary Schultz was taken into custody.

Traffic Safety Crisis in Minnesota

An extra enforcement period to crack down on speeding continues across the state. The Owatonna Police Department is one of the participating agencies. Just the Facts reports, "During the first 50 days of the 100 most-traveled days of the year (Memorial Day - Labor Day), preliminary reports show 76 people have died on Minnesota roads."

Twenty-one of those fatalities are deemed to be speed-related. Overall for this year, 229 people have died on Minnesota roads, a 36-percent increase from 2020.
