Owatonna and Lakeville South Divers in Finals
Junior Allison An of Owatonna and senior Brittany Alexander of Lakeville South have made the cut to participate in Saturday's finals at the MSHSL Girls Swimming and Diving Meet in Class 2A.
An is in 9th place through the semifinals and Alexander in 14th place.
Alexander finished 14th last year and told KDHL she had a goal of making the All-State top 8 going into the meet.
She knows she'll have to nail all three of her dives in the finals to leap that many spots.
An was pleased with her performances and has a very good shot at making All-State.
Through eight dives An has a point total of 238.50 not far behind the number 8 spot with a total of 245.80.
The Owatonna junior says a college hasn't been chosen yet but she'll probably dive in college even though gymnastics is her favorite sport.
Roseville senior Michelle Schlossmacher-Smith is in first heading into Saturday's finals with a score of 341.25. Edina sophomore Megan Phillip is in second place with 328.10.
In addition Big Nine divers, senior Isabella Lichen of Rochester Mayo and senior Kate Heins of Rochester Century advanced to the semifinals.
Lichen is in 11th place heading into Saturday's finals.
I had the opportunity to visit with Alexander and An along with their diving coaches and will air those interviews during our morning sports report at 7:40 Friday morning on KDHL, 920 AM, www.kdhlradio.com and you can download the Radio Pup app and listen on your favorite mobile device.
