St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The total number of confirmed COVID 19 cases in Minnesota has risen almost 170.

The State Department of Health today reported that testing identified 32 new cases of the viral illness throughout the state, raising the total to 169. The number of samples tested by the state health department has grown to almost 4700.

A total of 17 people have been hospitalized due to COVID 19. The State Department says 10 people are currently hospitalized and 5 are being treated in intensive care units.

Two more cases of COVID 19 were confirmed in Olmsted County, which has now seen 14 cases since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Mower County now has six confirmed cases, Steele County has three, Dodge County and Fillmore County each have two, while Wabasha and Rice Counties are still reporting that each has one confirmed case of COVID 19.

Yesterday, the health department reported the state's first COVID 19 death. It involved a Ramsey County resident in their 80s who apparently became infected through contact with a previously confirmed COVID 19 patient with a history of international travel.
