Even though there was some disappointment over the timing on bringing the proposal to the Northfield City council, they agreed to release land for a 94 unit assisted living facility, just west of Northfield Hospital.

The vote was 5-2 with Mayor Rhonda Pownell and Councilor Suzie Nakasian the 2 no votes. The council would like more details on land and zoning as the project moves forward.

According to the Northfield News, Northfield Hospital, is backing the project which brought in Yanik Companies to serve as private developers. Yanik is reportedly not asking for any funding from the city or hospital in developing the project, and upon completion will give the facility over Benedictine Health Systems.

The city releasing the land means the project can work with St. Olaf to develop the facility and allow for possible expansion into another 70 unit facility later.

The project means another $300,000 coming in in property taxes annually.
