The New Market Muskies started their Class C Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Tournament with a 1-0 win in Maple Lake today.  Tony Vocca threw 7 scoreless innings while scattering 3 hits.  Faribault Lakers ace Matt Lane tossed the final two frames of scoreless ball and recorded the victory.

Vocca had 5 strikeouts, no walks, Lane 4 strikeouts, no walks, 1 hit allowed.  New Market left fielder Bret Herber knocked in the only run in the bottom of the 8th inning when pinch runner Justin Firpo scored.

The Muskies had 5 hits, Redbirds 4 hits.  New Market had 2 errors, Luverne 1 error in the game.

Brandan Alfson was the tough luck loser.  He went the distance with 4 strikeouts, no walks.

New Market also drafted Mike Carpentier from the Lakers and Union Hill pitcher and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown graduate Conrad Masberg.

The Muskies will play the New London-Spicer Twins Friday, August 30, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. in Maple Lake.  The Twins defeated the Mora Blue Devils 4-2 in Delano today.

The single elimination Class C Tournament resumes Labor Day weekend with four games Friday, four games Saturday, four games Sunday and the title game Monday.

Region 5 Champion Red Wing is also in the sweet sixteen following their 3-1 win over Avon today.

Region 6 champion Jordan defeated Bird Island 10-4 Saturday.  The Brewers square off with Fergus Falls 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Delano.  Jordan and Waterville are in opposite brackets so the only way they could play each other would be in the title game.
