The MSHSL Class 3A State Boys Basketball Tournament opens Wednesday at Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota campus.

10:00 a.m. top seed Totino-Grace #1 QRF goes up against #8 seed Minneapolis South Tigers.  The Eagles (24-2) are #7 QRF, averaging 80.7 while allowing 53.6 points per game.

The Tigers (21-8) average 75.9 and give up 69.6 points per contest with a #12 QRF and a 4 game winning streak.

Noon the Northfield Raiders (25-3) tangles with fellow Big Nine Conference member Mankato East (21-7).

The game will be broadcast on KDHL Radio 920 AM, 97.9 FM, worldwide on FREE KDHL app.  Roy Koenig will be on the call.

The Raiders average 67 points (fewest in their class at state) and allow 55 points per game (the fewest allowed in their class at state).

The Cougars average 71.5 points and give up 58.5 points per contest.

Northfield is #5 QRF, #4 seed, Mankato East #6 QRF, #5 seed,

The Big Nine Champions were Rochester Mayo, a Class 4A school.

This is the first trip to State for Northfield since 1932 while Mankato East has placed second each of the past two seasons.

The Cougars are making their 14th appearance, the Raiders their 4th at State.

2:00 p.m. #2 seed DeLaSalle Islanders (26-3). #2 QRF, averaging 82 and giving up 57, tangle with #7 seed Grand Rapids Thunderhawks (24-5), #10 QRF, scoring 73.1, allowing 53.1 points per game.

The defensive yield for Grand Rapids is tops in the class at state.

4:00 p.m. the final quarterfinal Class 3A game features #3 seed Richfield Spartans (27-2) against #6 seed, Sartell Sabres (21-8).

The Spartans are #4 QRF with a 10 game winning streak, Sabres #7 QRF,. have 9 straight victories.
