All except one game went according to seeding in the Class 1A MSHSL Boys Basketball State Tournament Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Target Center in Minneapolis.

Top seed Henning Hornets advanced 61-45 over #8 Upsala Cardinals, #5 seed Hills-Beaver Creek edged #4 seed Southland 72-69 in a battle of teams in their first state boys basketball tournament.

#2 seed Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Bulldogs defeated  #7 seed Cherry Tigers 81-72 and #3 seed Red Lake County Rebels downed #6 seed Liberty Classical Academy Lions 85-63.

The Cardinals had the lead 22 seconds and were dominated in the paint with the Hornets scoring 38 points there while Upsala tallied 18.

Henning also achieved 12 points off turnovers to Upsala's 1.

The Cardinals were held to 32 percent shooting and Henning shot 45 percent.  Neither team shot well from three point range in the professional arena.

Kale Msegades, senior, 6'3 amassed 35 points for Henning in about 35 minutes on the floor.  Quinn Guthrie, junior, 6'1 was the only Upsala player in double figures with 12 points.

The Cardinals entered the State Tournament with a 70 points per game output.

#5 seed Hills-Beaver Creek got by #4 seed Southland with the final statistics as close as the score except in one category.

The Patriots scored 44 points in the paint and the Rebels 30 points.

Tate Goergen, junior, 6'1 and Henry Wiste, junior, 6'3, had 21 points each for Southland.

The Patriots, now 28-3, Brodie Metzger, sophomore, 6'4, led H-B-C with 24 points, Jamin Metzger added 21 points, 10 rebounds.

Janesvile-Waldorf-Pemberton won 81-72 over Cherry.  The clear difference was the free throw line where the Bulldogs were 30 of 38 compared to 8 of 15.

the Tigers finished the game with 5 more field goals, double the number of three point baskets and J-W-P collected 26 points on fast breaks to 14 for Cherry.

Isaiah and Noah Asuma combined to score 61 of the Tigers 72 points.  Isaiah ,junior. 6'3, 33 points, Noah, senior, 6'2 collected 28 points, 15 rebounds.

Red Lake scored a 85-63 victory over Liberty Classical Academy of White Bear Lake.

The Rebels were #7 QRF , shot a blistering 61 percent from the field attacking the paintt to the tune of 46-30

The Rebels had 10 three point baskets compared to 6 of 16 from three point range for the Lions, in their first state tournament in any sport.

Sam Rupnow,, senior, scored 28 points, one shy of his average for the season.

Will Gieseke, senior, 6'1, amassed 25 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists for Red Lake County.

Noon Friday Henning goes up against Hills-Beaver Creek followed by 2:00 p.m. contest between Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton and Red Lake County.

I will have the Class 2A semifinals at 6:00 p.m.  Goodhue against defending champion Albany followed by 8:00 p.m. showdown for Pequot Lakes and Minnehaha Academy.

Class 1A title game is Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Arena.
