MN Teen Killed, 4 Others Wounded in Wisconsin Stabbing
Somerset, WI (KROC-AM News)- A teenager from Minnesota suffered fatal stab wounds while he was tubbing in western Wisconsin Saturday.
The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office says four other people were also stabbed while tubing down the Apple River in Somerset, Wis. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the report of a stabbing at 3:45 p.m.
Sheriff Scott Knudson told reporters a 17-year-old male was brought to a hospital where he died from his injuries. Knudson said the other four tubers are in their 20’s. One is a female and the other three are males. Two were airlifted to Regions Hospital while the other two were taken to Regions via ground ambulance. The sheriff's office initially reported the stab wounds as ranging from serious to critical. Knudson said most of the stab wounds were to the torsos of the victims.
Authorities set up a perimeter and located the suspect who was identified by a photo taken by a person who witnessed the stabbings. The suspect, described by Knudson as a 52-year-old man from Minnesota, was arrested and brought to the St. Croix County Jail without incident. He was estimated to be at-large for 90 minutes following the reported stabbings.
Knudson said as of Saturday they do not know what led to the stabbing. Knudson said other people tubing helped deputies access the area and administer aid to the injured tubers. The investigation remains ongoing.
