Minnesota + Wisconsin Included In Pine-Sol Cleaning Product Recall

A popular brand of household cleaning solution is involved in a recall effort.  A large variety of Pine-Sol products is being recalled due to the potential that they are contaminated with bacteria. The Pine-Sol products were sold nationwide at major retails stores - including Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The scope of this recall effort is rather large - involving approximately 37 million items, produced within the date range involved - January 2021 to September 2022.

Testing confirmed that the products involved "may contain bacteria".  The specific bacteria in question is Pseudomonas aeruginosa; the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commision shares that "[p]eople with weakened immune systems or external medical devices who are exposed to Pseudomonas aeruginosa face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment".

The risk is that those bacteria can enter a persons body "if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin".

Here are the Pine-Sol sub-varieties that are included in the recall:

• Pine-Sol Scented Multi-Surface Cleaner - Lavender Clean
• Pine-Sol Scented Multi-Surface Cleaner - Sparkling Wave
• Pine-Sol Scented Multi-Surface Cleaner - Lemon Fresh
• CloroxPro Pine-Sol All Purpose Cleaner - Lavender Clean
• CloroxPro Pine-Sol All Purpose Cleaner - Sparkling Wave
• CloroxPro Pine-Sol All Purpose Cleaner - Lemon Fresh
• CloroxPro Pine-Sol All Purpose Cleaner - Orange Energy
• Clorox Professional Pine-Sol Lemon Fresh Cleaner

For each of these products, they have date codes beginning with the prefix "A4" and the first five digits numbered less than 22249.  These Pine-Sol cleaning products were sold in bottles of 28, 48, 60, 100, 144, and 175 fluid ounces. The Clorox company shares that they are recalling all of the above-described products that were manufactured within that date range at their Forest Park, Georgia manufacturing facility.

At the present time, there have been no known reports of medical issues or allergy-sensitivities involved with the recalled products.  The recall effort was instigated with an abundance of caution after testing determined the potential for the contamination.

So what should you do if you have one of the recalled Pine-Sol products?  Clorox suggests that you should "immediately stop using" them.  Contact Pine-Sol for a full refund of the purchase price - with a receipt, or the manufacturer's suggested retail price without the receipt.
