Minnesota to Introduce Kevin O'Connell As New Head Coach Thursday

Fresh off a Super Bowl victory as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, it sounds like Kevin O'Connell is ready to head to the Midwest and make his next challenge official.

Multiple sources within the National Football League are reporting that O'Connell is ready to head to Minnesota to officially be announced as the new head coach for the Minnesota Vikings.

While there had been reports that O'Connell had agreed to become the Vikings head coach, nothing could be formally announced until after the Super Bowl, per league rules. As they say, "it don't mean stink if it ain't in ink", so there was always a chance that the deal could fall through.

However, as of Tuesday afternoon, it appears the Vikings do in fact have their man and he's ready to sign on the dotted line and begin assembling his staff. A Tuesday afternoon tweet by ESPN's Adam Schefter relying on "league sources" confirmed this would happen Thursday.

Kevin O'Connell, 36, played quarterback at San Diego State and was drafted by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft. During his NFL career he played for the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and San Diego Chargers before retiring in 2012. O'Connell became a coach in 2015, serving as an assistant coach for the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, and Washington. With Washington, he served as quarterbacks coach for current Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Now, with a shiny new Super Bowl ring on this finger, it appears he will partner with new Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and try to take Minnesota to that same level of success.
