Minnesota Nursing Home Residents Get Free Manis Thanks to this Teen
A Minnesota teen is changing the lives of some nursing home residents in her own way. It may seem like 'just a manicure' but the residents at Good Samaritan Society Ambassador in New Hope, MN love it.
The 19-year-old's name is Marielle. KARE 11 says she started working part-time at Good Samaritan 2 years ago. During that time, the residents encouraged her to go to beauty school, and so she did. She just graduated in December and is now a certified nail tech.
19-Year-Old Gives Free Manicures to Nursing Home Residents
Well, guess who gets to be the practice hands for Marielle? Yep, any of the willing residents where she works. Friends Toots and Dee seem to be regulars and they just love having their nails done. "[S]he is like a granddaughter to me," Toots says.
And while getting our nails done may not seem like that big of a deal, it's a big deal for these nursing home residents. It makes them feel beautiful and they really enjoy getting to spend some time with Marielle. Marielle said that she's not saving lives like the nurses at Good Samaritan, "'but it makes me feel like I'm doing something to change their lives.'”
Toots now has some adorable bunny nails and Dee has spring flowers. Both look amazing! Eventually, Marielle plans to open her own nail salon. I'm hoping that, if she can, she continues to do free manicures here and there for nursing home residents.
