Only FIve Things?

Good point. There are way more than five things not to step in or on when you're on a Minnesota farm, but since I've only stepped on 5 things...I'm sticking with what I know.

A farm is an amazing place. Things are stored everywhere. Some in the house, some in the garage, some in the shed, some in the Quonset hut, some in the workshop, and some in the butcher shop. "We gotta walk all the way out there to get the thing?" is something I've learned NOT to say.

#5 - Don't Step On Nails

On the way to the butcher shop (to get some farm-fresh meat...there is nothing better, trust me), I was walking on snow and ice. And, it turned out, a nail! Good thing I had big heavy boots on.

#4 - Don't Step In Puddles of Fluid

The farm has a beautiful and ancient tractor. It works, so it's still in use. In the winter, it hibernates in the workshop, which gives it time to release various fluids here. Never sure what they are, but if you walk through it, you're not likely to get it off your soles before you walk thru the kitchen, even though you're walking about 4 million steps away from the shop.

#3 - Don't Step Off the Plowed Path

The driveway in the picture is December, but in January, I was walking down the long driveway to get the mail and I wasn't paying attention to where I was walking. Turns out, if your foot goes off the edge of the plowed driveway, it'll sink and you'll be falling down and into a mixture of snow, dirt, mud, and lord knows what else. Watch where you're going.

#2 Don't Step On Frozen Apples

When the snow melts a little, and you're walking from here to there, and you almost twist your ankle, it just might be an apple. An apple? Yeah. See the apples on that tree? That's taken in the fall. You never know if you'll hit an apple that fell and froze.

#1 - Don't Step On Things Meant for Mice

It was Valentine's Day and I drove out there to make a romantic dinner. I ran to the garage for some frozen veggies (in my stocking feet!), but then snoodled around to see what other goodies were there, and whoomp! That's when I did it. Stepped on a mousetrap. After Diana stopped laughing, we tried to get it off.
