Minnesota City Council Votes To Oppose Gov. Walz Order
One Minnesota town isn't keeping it Minnesota Nice and following some of Governor Walz executive orders anymore. The City Council of Lakefield, located in Jackson County in Southwestern Minnesota, voted on a resolution Monday night to take "a stand against Gov. Tim Walz’s stay-at-home order and temporary closure of bars, restaurants and other places of public accommodation in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and has pledged to not direct any city resources to enforce them."
The resolution according to the Lakefield Standard was passed on a 3-2 vote and "affirm[ed] the city as a 'constitutional and business-friendly community'. The resolution goes on to say that "the City Council of Lakefield requests relief from Governor Walz's executive orders"...and demands that "sole power of issuing emergency orders and implementation related to COVID-19" be restored to the individual municipalities and local government agencies.

The resolution goes on to say that the City Council of Lakefield will not direct any resources to "enforce any Executive Order or any other directive which infringes on the right of law-abiding citizens".
Has Minnesota reached a breaking point? Will other cities follow suit? What will happen between the state and Lakefield? Time will tell.
