With the idea of adding some excitement to half time at the Cannon Falls Varsity basketball games Merchants Bank began the Money Ball contest last year. It was so successful with the students and school that it is being expanded to Randolph this year too. Last year Merchants gave away a total of $500 to students and $500 to the school to be split evenly between the boy's and girl's basketball programs. This year Money Ball will be played in Randolph November 30, 2917 and January 8, 2918. In Cannon Falls Money Ball will be played on December 4, 2017 and February 15, 2018.

Students sign up before halftime of the varsity game. Two students are chosen randomly, one from 1st to 5th grade and the other from 6th to 12th grade. Each student has one minute to make baskets. The younger student wins $5.00 for a lay-up, $10 for a free throw. It both are made the student has one chance to make a 3-pionter and win $25. The 6th to 12th grader wins $10 for a free throw, $25 for a 3-pionter and if both are made the student has one chance to make a half court shot and win $100.

In the picture is Cannon Falls Athletic Director Jake Winchell accepting a $500 check from Merchants Bank Money Ball coordinator Jenny Holz. What a great idea to get students involved in the varsity basketball game. Plus I am sure parents and families really enjoy it too. It would be nice to see all types of business get involved in local high school basketball games by sponsoring some type of contest that would be fun and entertaining!
