The Mankato Department of Public Safety has put out their news release on the armed robbery and car chase that took place today in Mankato.

According to the news release, the owner of a vehicle left it running while they went into a store on the 300 block of Stadium Road. While inside the individual noticed his vehicle being driven away. After chasing the vehicle down while it was picking up another individual, a suspect pointed a gun at the individual at that time the owner stopped pursuing the vehicle.

Later on Mankato Police spotted the stolen vehicle in Mankato at which the vehicle headed onto Highway 14 heading towards Janesville, where the pursuit ended in a residential neighborhood, and the suspects fled on foot. All of the suspects were apprehended, and a weapon was recovered. The full press release from the Mankato Department of Public Safety is below.

Mankato-Public Safety responded to a motor vehicle theft and assault at 1:03 p.m., today (March 4). The owner left the vehicle on and went into a business at 340 Stadium Road. While inside, he noticed the vehicle was being driven away and then chased after it. The vehicle stopped briefly and a second male entered it. During this time, the owner was close enough to approach the vehicle. One of the suspects pointed a weapon at the owner, who stopped for his safety, and the vehicle was driven away.

A short time later Mankato Public Safety officers spotted the stolen vehicle heading north on Highway 22 and onto Highway 14 and pursued it. The pursuit ended in a residential area in Janesville and the suspects fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, all three male suspects were taken into custody without incident. With the help of Nicollet County's K-9 unit, a weapon was recovered in the area where the pursuit ended. No injuries have been reported. 

Mankato Public Safety was assisted by the Blue Earth, Nicollet and Waseca county sheriffs' offices, the Minnesota State Patrol, and Eagle Lake and Janesville police departments. 

This is an ongoing investigation. No other information will be released at this time.

The Waseca County Sheriff's Office has put out a news release following the end of a police pursuit in Janesville. The suspects in the chase are linked to an armed robbery in Mankato from earlier in the day. The suspects were all arrested after crashing the vehicle they were riding into a ravine.

According to the Waseca County Sheriff's Office's news release:

The Waseca County Sheriff's Office was notified by The Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office, that an armed robbery had just occurred in the City of Mankato and officers were in pursuit eastbound on Highway 14 at a high rate of speed. Officers from the Mankato Department of Public Safety, Minnesota State Patrol and Blue Earth County were in pursuit of 3 males involved in the armed robbery.

The pursuit entered the City of Janesville where Waseca County Deputies and Janesville Police assisted. The pursuit ended in the City of Janesville after the suspects crashed into a ravine.

The subjects were apprehended near the crash scene. No officers were injured in the pursuit and no Waseca County officers were immediately involved in the active pursuit. No Waseca County patrol cars were damaged in this incident.
