An early afternoon slot at any festival can often be difficult for artists to fill, but LoCash proved they were more than up to the challenge during the first day of WE Fest 2016 in Detroit Lakes, Minn.

On Thursday afternoon (Aug. 4), the duo kicked off a high intensity set that included many tracks off their latest album The Fighters, as well as several impressive covers and two songs they penned that Keith Urban ("You Gonna Fly") and Tim McGraw ("Truck Yeah") recorded. Throughout the band's 80-minute set their energy never wavered, and by the last song, they had many festival attendees dancing in the pit for a spirited singalong of their Top 5 single, "I Love This Life."

Their set started shortly after 4PM while the sun was still up and country fans were slowly trickling into the venue. Their first time performing at WE Fest, LoCash were optimistic of their future in the lineup.

"Someday we're gonna fill this place up," Preston Brust said. "You know what? We'll have to come back and play WE Fest at night."

The band are well on their way to achieving that goal, as their current single, "I Know Somebody," sits at No. 17 on the country charts this week, something they thanked fans and country radio for during their performance. Highlights throughout their set included the Thomas Rhett-penned "Ring on Every Finger" as well as their own "Hey Hey Hey," which segued into an impressive cover of Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar on Me."

Mid-set the band touched upon losing several music legends this year, including Merle Haggard and Prince, before they segued into a soulful tribute to the latter, who is also a Minnesota native.

"I can't imagine what heaven sounds like with all of those guys up there," Chris Lucas said, prefacing "Purple Rain." A song that Lucas calls a favorite of his, his powerful vocals impressed as bandmate Brust played the piano beside him.

LoCash then followed with the title track of their album, which they dedicated to all the hardworking Americans. The anthemic song had the crowd on their feet, which only continued for the heavy rocker "C.O.U.N.T.R.Y" and set closer "I Love This Life."

"We wanted to write something positive in the world because there's so much negativity," Lucas said of "I Love This Life" before the duo jumped into the pit to sing the song with fans, creating their own WE Fest party.

WE runs through Aug. 6 in Detroit Lakes, Minn., with headliners Eric Church, Kid Rock and Tim McGraw.
