The Voice of Owatonna High School for over three decades will be inducted into the Owatonna High School Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, September 16, 2022.

Roy Koenigsberg uses Koenig on the air at KRFO 1390 AM Radio in Owatonna.  I've worked with him a number of times over the years.

When the Voice of the St. Olaf Oles football broadcasts Mike Morrissey was considering retirement the first person I phoned was Roy because I knew he would deliver a great product for the listeners of Ole football. He worked with Mike prior to taking over the broadcasts.

When Mike informed me he would no longer be able to assist with the MSHSL State Boys Basketball Tournament broadcasts on KDHL I turned to Roy again in hopes he would join me in what has become a great tradition.  I believe he enjoys seeing some great teams and players each year and has been fun to work with.

I have found Roy to be a consummate professional in everything he does.  He definitely has a passion for the Owatonna Huskies but still maintains a proper level of objectivity in his broadcasts.

He has filled in from time to time doing Faribault Falcons and Bethlehem Academy, Kenyon-Wanamingo and Cannon Falls broadcasts on KDHL or POWER 96 Radio and all their fanstell me they enjoy his coverage.

Roy grew up on the Iron Range so hockey is a love, but I think he would probably tell you he enjoys sharing what's happening in any sport.  Roy did not play sports in high school but he currently enjoys training for and running marathons.

Roy is passionate about working with Special Olympic athletes which tells you all you need to know about his compassionate heart.

Roy and wife Chris live in Farmington, Mn. and have two adult children.

Roy is going into the hall as a "Community Member" because he did not attend Owatonna High School but I dare say he has been at their facilities more than most graduates.

All of us in the family of Townsquare Media Radio Stations (KRFO, KAT Kountry, Owatonna, KDHL, POWER 96 Faribault) are proud of this tremendous honor for our friend and colleague.

The other individual inductee will be Tom Freeburg for Golf and Hockey (Class of 1970).

Due to COVID a two-year delay occurred in the Hall of Fame selections and the inaugral Owatonna High School Teams of Distinction.

Those teams will be inducted in 2022 and include:

  • 1950 Boys Track and Field (first State Champions in OHS history)
  • 1954 Boys Wrestling (State Champions, 11-0 undefeated season)
  • 1974 Boys Basketball (State Champions, 17-4 overall record)
  • 1976 Girls Track and Field (AA State Champions, first year of having two classes compete)
  • 1989 Boys Basketball (State Champions, 24-1 overall record)

Ticket information will be shared later by the Owatonna Athletic Hall of Fame Committee.

I know Roy would enjoy this.
