When Will Minnesota Get to Taste This New Tag Team Effort?
When I moved here from North Carolina, I realized that there were some businesses that are available in the Tar Heel state that aren’t available in Minnesota.
To my surprise, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is one of those businesses. The doughnut chain is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina and is a staple in the south.
Krispy Kreme has the “Hot Doughnuts Now” Light and when it’s lit up, it indicates there are doughnuts that are warm and fresh ready to be consumed.
I know of people who will turn off the path they are on when they see that precious red light turned on. When I lived in Harrisonburg Virginia, they built a Krispy Kreme there shortly after I moved there, and for nearly two months they had to have off duty police officers' direct traffic because of the amount of traffic the new location created.
But there are not any Minnesota locations of Krispy Kreme which is a little odd, because the company that owns the doughnut chain is said to be the same one that owns Caribou Coffee, JAB Holding Company.
This isn’t to inform you that Krispy Kreme locations are coming back to Minnesota, but it appears their doughnuts will be. According to news that came out Tuesday, Krispy Kreme and McDonalds have reached a deal to have the delicious doughnuts served in the house that Ronald McDonald built.
Doughnuts will begin making their way to the menu boards at McDonalds before the end of this year and should be available nationwide by the end of 2026.
The doughnuts will be sold individually and in boxes of six according to the report. Krispy Kreme's will be delivered each morning and will be available while supplies last during the day.
If there is a downside to this story it’s this, there will only be three doughnuts available at the McDonalds locations, the original glazed, chocolate iced with sprinkles and chocolate iced with "kreme" filling.
The decision for this merger to take place comes after market testing in Kentucky which company officials say exceeded expectations.
Now, what will the nickname for this "tag-team" be? McKrispy? McKremed? Krispy Ronald? I think I’ll leave that up to the professionals.
