A teenage girl from Illinois was given a cannabis edible and her parents ended up having to take her to the hospital emergency room.

Even though recreational marijuana is legal in Illinois, it is still only allowed for people 21 years of age and older. There is a good reason for that. Minors are not mature enough to be able to handle the effects of cannabis.

Over the past couple of years, I've seen several stories about kids getting their hands on cannabis edibles at school and it ends up sending the child to the hospital. That's why marijuana education is so important.

The latest incident happened at Francis M. McKay Elementary School in Chicago. A parent was called when her daughter passed out in class and they couldn't wake her. She was taken to the emergency room where she slept for 24 hours straight. She still wasn't feeling well after waking up.

According to CBS News in Illinois, "A mother says her 13-year-old daughter was unconscious for 24 hours after she was given a marijuana edible at school."
