Ouch! Illinois Ranked As ‘Worst Place To Live’ In America
To be fair, we didn't rank last. That's a positive, right?
Take this news with a grain of salt because not only is this subjective, but the results were also created by only a thousand people.
Before we get to the bad news, let's talk about why Illinois ranked so low on the 'Best Places to Live' list.
What makes a place desirable? Cost of living? Lots of entertainment? Low crime rate? Vibrant nightlife?
According to this survey,
“Illinois has pretty high taxes and when people respond to our questions about what makes a state desirable, it’s low cost-of-living and low taxes, and so they are going to maybe prefer a state like Florida or Texas” [advantage news]
What's kinda funny is that a U-Haul service shared how often people used their U-Hauls to move around the country. Want to know how many people up and left to live in Illinois? Not a whole lot, that's for sure.
Illinois Ranked Extremely Low On 'Best Places To Live' In America
WE RANKED #48 ON BEST PLACES TO LIVE... at least we're not New Jersey or New York. They ranked #49 and #50.
Sure, we have cornfields, casinos, high taxes, bad drivers, and potholes that never get filled, but that's not all we offer!
We're home to:
- the best city to live the American dream
- the cheapest city to buy a house
- crushing Guiness World Records
- the best pizza spots on the planet
- the best state to raise a family in 2025
Don't underestimate the power of Illinois. We might make a lot of negative lists and rank extremely low on "best places to live", but that doesn't mean you shouldn't live here. I've been here my whole life, and I turned out just fine!
