One of the World’s ‘Most Iconic Food Places’ is in Illinois
Who knew, when measured up against the entire world, that one place in Illinois would even rank in the top 100?
Well, that's what happened as I was scrolling through the list of Taste Atlas' Awards for 23/24.
Their article called The Most Iconic Food Places in the World includes restaurants in Austria, Italy, and Germany.
Matter of fact, restaurants in those locales ranked one, two, and three.
A little bit further down the list, Katz's Delicatessen in New York City made the list at #11. That's the first American restaurant (or deli for that matter) to be featured on this prestigious rundown.
Of the top 100 on Taste Atlas' awards list, only 14 different US locations made it altogether.
That list includes Margie's Candies.
Want to talk about overlooked, and oft-forgotten? Margie's Candies has been an institution for decades but never gets brought up in the same breath as the rest of the beloved places of similar ilk in Chicago.
Maybe because it's looked at as a candy store but it's so much more than that.
Margie's Candies is a nostalgic candy and ice cream shop, known for its homemade confections and classic ice cream sundaes. With its original 1921 decor, this iconic shop has maintained its old-school charm and continues to be a beloved spot for sweets lovers.
Famous for its delicious sundaes, the article failed to mention Margie's was also featured in an episode of the award-winning TV show, The Bear where Ayo Edebiri chowed down on one of those delectable treats.
