You Can Stay in This Magical Lord of the Rings Treehouse in Minnesota
If you’ve ever watched and thought, “I wish I could stay somewhere like that,” there’s actually a place in Minnesota that gets pretty dang close.
Tucked away in the small town of Upsala is a Lord of the Rings–inspired treehouse Airbnb that fans say feels like a love letter to the world created by J. R. R. Tolkien.
And yes… there’s even a door to Mordor, for all you super fans.

But even if you’ve never watched a single minute of the movies, I can confidently say you’d still find this place quite epic as well.
The treehouse sits on more than two wooded acres on the edge of town, giving it that peaceful “middle of nowhere” feeling even though you’re not far from local trails and lakes.

The hosts leaned all the way into the fantasy theme too. There’s a Shire-style garden, little nods to the story tucked around the property, and even a playful tribute to Mordor down the hill where brave guests can open the mysterious “Mor Do(o)r.”
Inside, it’s unique and cozy but surprisingly functional, with perks you might not expect in a treehouse, like a kitchen and a lofted sleeping space. There are also tons of windows and skylights that bring the outdoors right inside. Guests can even enjoy extras like a year-round hot tub and steam sauna, which honestly sounds pretty perfect after a long day exploring nearby trails.
But really, the biggest draw here is the experience. This isn’t just another cabin in the woods. It’s one of those places where you show up, look around, and immediately think… “Okay, this is pretty magical.”
