It’s Finally Happening: Rochester’s First Popeyes Is Opening Soon

Earlier this year, we built a wish list of restaurants based on feedback from Rochester locals, and Popeyes was the second most requested spot in town. (Scroll down to see the full list of top-requested restaurants and let us know what's missing!)

Now, a half decade after finding out they were coming to town, the finish line for Popeyes is finally in sight. Construction is almost done and the restaurant is close to opening.

Popeyes Rochester, MN Location Opening Soon

Popeyes is one of my favorite chains, so I was pumped several years ago when the company confirmed to me that their first location would be opening by late 2021. I was so excited to be able to get their delicious chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and a biscuit.

That obviously didn't happen, and as time went on, a lot of people started losing hope. But last May, a construction crew finally broke ground, and now it won't be long until they're up and running.

Rochester's first Popeyes location will open near the Apache Mall at 823 Apache Lane SW. A second restaurant is set to open up by Walmart North next spring.

According to the Post Bulletin, construction crews at the Apache Mall site are wrapping up final details and preparing the building for city inspections. Here's a look at what modern Popeyes restaurants look like:

We've been told for months that early November was the target opening date, so assuming the inspections pass without a hitch, Rochester’s very first Popeyes is officially on track to open its doors in the next couple of weeks.
