City of Rochester Provides Update to Make-Up 4th of July Fireworks Show

The City of Rochester has provided more details for the make-up 4th of July fireworks show.

A couple of weeks ago they announced that the make-up date was Friday, September 4th at Soldier's Field, but no other details were given at the time. Now, more things have been ironed out and more information is available.

When to See the Rochester, MN 4th of July Make-Up Fireworks Show

The make-up show will be on Friday, September 4th, the start of Labor Day weekend. It will be at Soldier's Field, starting at 9 PM.

In case something happens where the display needs to be rescheduled again, the make-up date for the make-up date is the following day, Saturday, September 5th.

The city also writes that the company behind the fireworks display, J&M Displays Inc., is adding "a $10,000 enhancement to the September 4 display at no additional cost to the City."

J&M Displays and the city are also "implementing additional measures to support a successful and reliable show, including using a different firing system".

Jenna Bowman, Strategic Communications & Engagement Director, said,

“Since July 4, the City has remained focused on delivering a strong and reliable fireworks experience for the Rochester community. We appreciate J&M Displays Inc.’s commitment to enhancing the rescheduled show at no additional cost to the City."

In case you missed what happened with the 4th of July fireworks show, it was supposed to start at 10 PM on July 4th. Then, suddenly some storms developed, so to get the show in before the storms they moved the start time up to 9:30 PM.

People were set up early waiting for the show. And waiting. The first firework didn't shoot off until 9:45 and then ended just a few minutes later. Well, that's not normal.

According to the company, the extreme heat during the day took a massive toll on the crew. Combine that brutal heat with the sudden, last-minute decision to bump the launch time up by 30 minutes to beat the incoming storms, and the crew simply ran out of time.
