After Years of Dirt, This Rochester Lot Is Becoming Bakery Flats
Have you noticed something new being built just off of Civic Center Drive near Barlow Plaza in Kutzky Park? It's on 11th Ave NW right along the trail by Cascade Creek across the street from Walgreens. The lot has been torn up for years but finally there are signs up telling us what exactly is going up in that area.
This lot used to be the Wonder Bread factory in town back in the day and the name of the new place is definitely a nod to that history.

New Apartments Coming to Rochester
The new building is another apartment complex. I know, I know, we've already got so many of those, but we do need more places for people to live if Rochester continues to expand the way that it is.
We've known since the beginning of the year that an apartment complex was the plan for this lot, but the signs at the construction site with the official announcement just went up. I've been by that site many times and this was the first time I spotted the sign.

As for the name that I definitely think is a nod to the former Wonder Bread factory, the apartments will be called Bakery Flats. I love it!
When Will Rochester's New Apartments, Bakery Flats, Open?
The sign says they plan to open in the Spring of 2028, so this construction will be on-going for quite some time, I'm sure much to the chagrin of the people who live nearby.
