The surge created by Walker Hayes has worn off. 'Fancy Like' was a big hit in 2022 and boosted Applebee's sales above pre-pandemic levels from 2019. But now, the once-thriving chain restaurant is facing difficulties and its parent company has announced multiple locations will close this year.

Applebee’s is one the largest casual dining restaurant chains in the world. It began in 1980 in Decatur, Georgia, and now you can find it in many cities across the United States and in other countries too, with over 1,500 locations worldwide.

During a fourth-quarter earnings call on February 29, Applebee’s president Tony Moralejo revealed approximately how many restaurants will close in 2024.

How Many Applebee's Will Be Closing This Year?


Eat This Not That says the chain has closed hundreds of restaurants since 2017 and is expected to close another 25-35 this year. At this time it's not known which locations will be shutting down.
