According to several sources, cell phones have increased accidental calls quite a bit. If you keep your keypad locked, that will help. However, if your phone accidentally dials 911 or a child grabs your phone and calls by mistake, don't panic. Just follow the tips below:
If you dial 911 by mistake, or if a child in your home dials 911 when no emergency exists, do not hang up – that could make 911 officials think that an emergency exists, and possibly send responders to your location. Instead, simply explain to the call-taker what happened. It's also worth noting that it's often not necessary to save 911 in your contacts list on your phone. You will not forget the number and accidental 911 calls are more likely if you have it saved as a contact. - Olmsted County Sheriff's Office Facebook Page
