
Southern Minnesota Teen Killed in Crash With Semi Near Northfield
Northfield, MN (KROC-AM News) - A southern Minnesota teenager was killed in a collision with a semi-truck on Wednesday.
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office today released information about the fatal crash, which occurred around 3:25 p.m. at a rural intersection located about a mile northwest of Northfield.
Crash at T-Intersection
A news release says a preliminary investigation found the semi-truck was traveling west on 320th Street when it collided with a small car as the driver was attempting to turn east onto 320th Street from Foliage Avenue. The intersection is a T-intersection controlled by a stop sign on Foliage Avenue.
Life Saving Measures Attempted
The Sheriff’s Office indicated that responding deputies found two people inside the car and both were unresponsive. Life-saving efforts were attempted, but the driver of the car, 16-year-old Berlyn Berghuis of Northfield, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her passenger, 16-year-old Anabelle Martinez, was airlifted from the scene to a hospital with what were described as serious injuries. The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt.
Remains Under Investigation
The deadly incident remains under investigation by the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol.
