Teenager Charged With Involvement in Minneapolis Mass Shooting
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - A teenager from northeastern Minnesota has been charged in connection with a mass shooting that occurred last summer at an LGBTQIA+ friendly event in Minneapolis.
Court records show 18-year-old Dominic Burris of Hinckley was arraigned today in juvenile court on six felony charges, including aiding and abetting second-degree murder. A statement issued by the Hennepin County Attorney's office says he was 17 years old when the shooting took place at a Minneapolis backyard concert venue known as "Nudieland."
One person attending the event was killed and at least seven other people were wounded during the shooting on August 11th. The man killed by the gunfire was identified as 35-year-old August Golden.
According to the criminal complaint, it is alleged that Burris was one of two teenagers who were seen at the concert just before the shooting. Witnesses reported that they were approached by the two males who made insensitive comments while involved in what was described as a "hostile" interaction during which the teenagers brandished firearms.
The court document says other witnesses overheard the teenagers expressing "derogatory epithets about the sexual orientation of concert attendees" before they left the venue together.
The witnesses reported the shooting started less than a minute after they left, with the gunfire coming from a yard next to the site of the concert. Investigators later found bullet casings in that yard.
The charges say that investigators were able to develop a DNA profile will of one of the suspects by extracting genetic material from a cigarette butt at the scene. Surveillance camera videos were also used to identify the suspects.
The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says an arrest warrant has been issued for the second teenager.
