Lake City, MN (KROC-AM News) - Firefighters in Lake City were called out to battle a fire as some of the heaviest snow from the weekend storm was falling across southeastern Minnesota.

The Lake City Fire Department says a call came in shortly after 9 AM concerning a large fire in an unoccupied tin-roofed building that contained a known large fire load. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they discovered the roof of the building had collapsed from the weight of the snow.

Snow Plow Cleared Path For Firefighters

A news release indicates that by that time in the morning, Lake City had already seen more than a foot of snow accumulation, which made the response to the fire very difficult. Two employees of the Lake City Streets and Parks Department managed to clear a path and escort firefighters to the property, mitigating a situation that would have been “close to impossible” without their assistance.

Cause of Fire Investigated

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but the news release indicates the roof collapse could have contributed to the blaze. No injuries were reported.

Lake City firefighters, along with personnel from the Wabasha and Zumbro Falls Fire Departments, were at the scene for about six hours.
